Gŵyl Gregynog Festival 2020

CANCELLATION OF THE GREGYNOG FESTIVAL (15-21 JUNE 2020)

In the light of the COVID-19 pandemic and following advice from Government and the Arts Council of Wales, the Gregynog Festival Board has taken the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Festival.

2020 marks one hundred years since Gwendoline and Margaret Davies purchased Gregynog Hall, a magnificent manor house near Newtown in the heart of Mid Wales, to realise their vision of creating an arts centre in the wake of the First World War. Gregynog Festival is Wales’s oldest extant classical music festival and was due to celebrate this important centenary with a programme of concerts, talks and exhibitions entitled ‘Generosity’, inspired by the Davies sisters and other Welsh patronesses of the past.

Commenting on behalf of the Board of Directors, Dr Rhian Davies said: “Regrettably, we have no way of knowing what the position will be in June, especially with regard to the travel arrangements of so many international artists whom we had invited to Gregynog this season. The well-being of all Festival performers, audience members and staff has been paramount in reaching this decision and Sarah Yeomans, our Box Office Manager, will be contacting ticket-holders in the days ahead.”

CANSLO GŴYL GREGYNOG (15-21 MEHEFIN 2020)

Oherwydd y pandemig COVID-19 a chan ddilyn cyngor gan y Llywodraeth a chan Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru, mae Bwrdd Gŵyl Gregynog wedi cymryd y penderfyniad anodd i ganslo Gŵyl 2020.

Mae’r flwyddyn 2020 yn nodi can mlynedd ers i Gwendoline a Margaret Davies brynu Plas Gregynog, maenordy godidog ger y Drenewydd yng nghalon Canolbarth Cymru, er mwyn gwireddu eu gweledigaeth greu canolfan i’r celfyddydau yn dilyn y Rhyfel Byd Cyntaf. Gŵyl Gregynog yw gŵyl gerddoriaeth glasurol hynaf Cymru ac roedd ar fin dathlu’r canmlwyddiant pwysig hwn gyda rhaglen o gyngherddau, sgyrsiau ac arddangosfeydd dan y teitl ‘Haelioni’, wedi cael ei hysbrydoli gan y chwiorydd Davies a noddwragedd Cymreig eraill o’r gorffennol.

Wrth siarad ar ran Bwrdd y Cyfarwyddwyr, dywedodd Dr Rhian Davies: ‘Yn anffodus, nid oes gennym unrhyw ffordd o wybod beth fydd y sefyllfa ym mis Mehefin, yn enwedig o ran trefniadau teithio yr artistiaid rhyngwladol niferus yr ydym wedi eu gwahodd i Gregynog y tymor hwn. Roedd lles holl berfformwyr yr Ŵyl, aelodau’r gynulleidfa a’r staff, wedi bod yn hollbwysig wrth ddod i’r penderfyniad hwn, a bydd Sarah Yeomans, Rheolwr y Swyddfa Docynnau, yn cysylltu â deiliaid tocynnau yn y dyddiau i ddod.’
