Gŵyl Gregynog Festival 2021

The Directors of the Gregynog Festival are grateful to have been awarded two grants from the Welsh Government’s Cultural Recovery Fund to help sustain the core costs of the charity until 30 September 2021.

Sadly, it will not be possible to hold live performances at Gregynog again this season, but Artistic Director Dr Rhian Davies has created a Zoom presentation to mark the Centenary of the Montgomery County Music Festival, an event in which Gwendoline and Margaret Davies were closely involved.

Visiting soloists were invited to stay at the Hall and Henry Walford Davies and Adrian Boult led study-days in the Music Room to which conductors and choristers from across the county were invited to rehearse the repertoire.

Rhian said: “Members of today’s Festival Choir have kindly shared information and photos with me, and I shall also be drawing on my own memories of singing the great oratorios in the old Pavilion when I was growing up in Newtown.

“The title of the talk is ‘Full of glorious possibilities’ – taken from Walford Davies’ Foreword to the first programme in 1921 – and it will explore the rich history of the County Music Festival as well as its significant place within the tradition of massed choral singing in Wales.

“It’s great to have been able to arrange to speak on Centenary Day itself, 21 July 2021, from 5.00pm, and we are grateful to the National Library of Wales for hosting the session.”

To book your free place to attend, visit the Events section of the National Library website, or simply watch live via the Library’s Facebook page and on demand thereafter.

Mae Cyfarwyddwyr Gŵyl Gregynog yn ddiolchgar o fod wedi derbyn dau grant gan Gronfa Adferiad Diwylliannol Llywodraeth Cymru i helpu i gynnal costau craidd yr elusen tan 30 Medi 2021.

Yn anffodus, ni fydd modd cynnal perfformiadau byw yng Ngregynog eto y tymor hwn, ond mae’r Cyfarwyddwr Artistig, Dr Rhian Davies, wedi creu cyflwyniad Zoom i nodi Canmlwyddiant Gŵyl Gerdd Sir Drefaldwyn, digwyddiad yr oedd Gwendoline a Margaret Davies yn ymwneud yn agos ag ef.

Gwahoddwyd unawdwyr-ar-ymweliad i aros yn y Neuadd a bu Henry Walford Davies ac Adrian Boult yn arwain dyddiau astudiaeth yn yr Ystafell Gerdd, lle gwahoddwyd arweinyddion ac aelodau o gorau o bob rhan o’r sir i ymarfer y repertoire.

Dywedodd Rhian: “Mae aelodau Côr yr Ŵyl heddiw wedi rhannu gwybodaeth a lluniau gyda mi, a byddaf hefyd yn tynnu ar fy atgofion fy hun o ganu’r oratorios gwych yn yr hen Bafiliwn pan oeddwn yn tyfu i fyny yn y Drenewydd.

“Teitl y sgwrs yw ‘Llawn posibiliadau gogoneddus’ – a gymerwyd o Ragair Walford Davies i’r rhaglen gyntaf yn 1921 – a bydd yn archwilio hanes cyfoethog Gŵyl Gerdd y Sir yn ogystal â’i lle arwyddocaol o fewn y traddodiad o ganu corawl wedi’i orchfygu yng Nghymru.

“Mae’n wych gallu trefnu i siarad ar Ddiwrnod y Canmlwyddiant ei hun, 21 Gorffennaf 2021, o 5.00pm, ac rydym yn ddiolchgar i Lyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru am gynnal y sesiwn.”

I archebu lle am ddim i fynychu, ewch i adran Digwyddiadau gwefan y Llyfrgell Genedlaethol, neu gwyliwch yn fyw drwy dudalen Facebook y Llyfrgell ac ar alw wedi hynny.
